Welcome to TheLiberative.com
In general, people like to slot themselves and others onto the standard political spectrum, whether the person is discussing politics or more fundamental questions and concerns. He's a conservative, she's a leftist, and so on.
As it turns out, that kind of classification is useless when it comes to understanding at a fundamental level what is required from ourselves in order to increase the types and amounts of liberation in our own world and out there in the rest of the world.
An examination of that spectrum will readily show that some people on the Left and some on the Right and some in the middle are strongly prone to interfering in other people's lives (the natural instinct to meddle going badly wrong). On the other hand, other people across the spectrum understand the wisdom of being liberal in letting people pursue their own happiness wherever possible. Of course, it is also not a surprise when we find a single individual who is so upset about one issue that he demands government action to fix what he sees as a serious problem, while at the same time espousing freedom on another issues. And so it goes, around and around, with everyone demanding their rights in one area while striving to take away other people's rights in another.
Can you say why this is so? Are you sure you are not one of these meddlers? Do you believe that some meddling is needed to keep us all from destroying ourselves or our world? If so, are you aware that some of what you push on other people may increase conflict, or poverty, or decrease the ability of others to pursue their happiness in perfectly legitimate ways? Are you sure that what you espouse as good or peaceful or loving actually is good or peaceful or loving, or might the results actually create evil or harm or brutality?
I don't fit on the standard political spectrum, and much of what I will be talking about on this site concerns more fundamental issues than just the latest political battle. Although my material will have implications for how people think about and act on political questions, the focus of this site is on understanding the implications of a choice or an action, to provide a framework for thinking about and guiding one’s own behavior, choices and actions.
I am using the term "The Liberative" to help others move me off their typical political spectrum. It is like "Conservative" or "Progressive" in form. However, it is different enough to make people pause before classifying me, to alert them to the emphasis I'm placing on Liberation.
My prime goal and focus on this website is to take the time necessary to look deeply into the question of liberation. How can we live well, be happy, get along with our neighbors, and give and receive acceptance and care? How can we be sure we are not reducing these good things through our choices and actions, either for ourselves or for others? Is there a boundary beyond which freedom cannot go, where responsibility must take the lead?
In my view we have lost or never knew some of the most fundamental understandings of how we should each make choices and act on those choices. Some might say that the Founding Fathers of the United States got it right. There is no doubt in my mind that they were right on many questions. However, we are where we are despite their knowledge and efforts. I believe they were wrong in certain important respects. I intend to figure out where they missed something. I also want to see if I can confirm where they were right and rediscover why.
I think some of the answers lie in understanding more deeply our individual choices and actions, and what can result from the various choices and actions we could take. If we don't know why certain forms of conduct lead to harmony while others lead to conflict, then perhaps it's better that we not demand that others make changes we think they need to. Maybe we need to figure things out more appropriately first, before we choose and act, so that what we finally choose to do is helpful and not harmful.
I hope you will look through the rest of this website and check out the material I have entered. As of early 2010 the material is limited, but I will be posting new material in the months and years ahead.
Again, I want to welcome you to TheLiberative.com.
